Black Highway

Life is often said to be like a journey. Many of our journeys are full of memories from the past which tinge our view of the future, and as we age, we continue to collect new memories. If we do not save these in some fashion, at the end of each journey, they will disappear. Black Highway, Pulse State's third album, is an attempt by project founder Mike Phipps to document some of his own memories and thoughts, while further defining new facets of the Pulse State sound.

Elements of past PS works can easily be heard in many of these new compositions; however, the fusion of darkwave and Gothic rock elements with the already-existing synthpop and melodic EBM influences is prevalent across most of the album. The result is a well-balanced mix of songs that are suited to a variety of surroundings and environments: in the club, on the road, at home, or anywhere else that music can be heard and appreciated. The Embers single from earlier this year served as a small taste of what was to come; now, the full range of what Pulse State is all about in 2015 can be shown to the world.

Feel free to take a journey on the Black Highway. Savor every moment, look to the future, and never forget where you have been in this life.
