Flowers for Mankind EP

Innocence! Ignorance! It's all the same! Arrogance, with no sense! We play the game! And if a force should wipe us out I don't think I would care Our kind is a dying breed With a cross it cannot bear *And in this moment I confide I give you flowers, watch them die Is there any hope for peace at all? And in this moment I confide You give me flowers, watch me die Is there any hope for our kind? Watch me die! Consolation! Fall of nation! It's all the same! Bureaucracy! Hypocrisy! We play the game! And if the stars fall from the sky My heart won't miss a beat Enduring terror from ourselves This life is no great feat Enduring terror from ourselves Flowers... Give me flowers for mankind... so I could die... Give me flowers for mankind... so I could die! *And in this moment I confide I give you flowers, watch them die Is there any hope for peace at all? And in this moment I confide You give me flowers, watch me die Is there any hope for our kind? Flowers for mankind

I'm standing here alone The snow is falling all around I try to reach for you As I collapse onto the ground My world is full of darkness It's like the sun has left the sky I hear no sound at all Save for all the tears I cry *Even though you're far away I feel you, January Love Emerged from cold December In my mind, you never died Will you return to light the way? I need you, January Love And if we never meet again I'll still dream your smile I'm going blind again Everything fades out to black I cannot find my path And my resolve begins to crack Just for a last time I want to feel you touching me Your touch could bring me back From this prison, set me free! *Even though you're far away I feel you, January Love Emerged from cold December In my mind, you never died Will you return to light the way? I need you, January Love And if we never meet again I'll still dream your smile
3.
Regression The act of letting go When the quality of your life fades away Regression I've done this many times It's the old familiar crutch on which I lay *Loneliness never felt so right before Self inflicting, dismantling Exposing my core It's so cathartic, living solitary life It's given me the time I need Away from sadness Sadness and strife Regression The time of my despair But sometimes I want pain to set me free Regression No one will understand But their opinions matter not to me Not to me... *Loneliness never felt so right before Self inflicting, dismantling Exposing my core It's so cathartic, living solitary life It's given me the time I need Away from sadness and strife *Loneliness never felt so right before Self inflicting, dismantling Exposing my core It's so cathartic, living solitary life It's given me the time I need Away from sadness Sadness and strife
4.
From birth until we all will die We never find the reason why We all live alone We go through partners, loves, and friends And still we cannot comprehend Do we live alone? Souls without a home? Hearts as cold as stone? *Faith loss No cost What is the reason we were placed Upon this vast, green planet's face? Was it just to be alone? Or do we share the universe With others that have lived here first Or are we still alone? Souls without a home? Hearts as cold as stone? *Faith loss No cost

about

Pulse State's sole member, Mike Phipps, spent years perfecting the synthpop and melodic EBM sides of the project's sound, culminating in the 2008 album With a Single Step. Now, after several years, the other foot falls. Darkwave and electro-Goth elements are woven into the tapestry of Pulse State, yet the project remains somewhat close to its synth/EBM roots at the same time.

This balancing act is what has driven and defined Pulse State in the last four years since With a Single Step. The Flowers for Mankind EP, especially the title track itself, shows Mike's growth as a musician, vocalist, songwriter, and producer. It improves upon all aspects of the project, while opening several avenues of possible development for the future. No one knows with any certainty what lies ahead for Pulse State, but the next chapter is surely being written with this release.
