After the release of Pulse State's third album, Black Highway (2015), it was in the plans to release a couple of singles in promotion of that work in the following year. As we all know, sometimes things don't go according to plan, and instead, 2016 saw Mike Phipps, Pulse State's Detroit-based founder and sole studio member, shift his solo project's activities into the background in favor of indulging other creative outlets. However, Mike knew that 2017 was fast approaching, and with it would come the 20th anniversary of Pulse State. As a result, it was decided to bring together the material that would have been on two separate singles, as well as some other unreleased goods, and offer them unified under one banner.
Although it would end up taking a long, convoluted path toward release, Pulse State now proudly presents its latest darkwave/synthpop crossover tour de force, Haunted Crystal Highways. This ten track, 45+ minute EP showcases what Mike was doing before, during, and after Black Highway. Two songs from that album, "The Haunting" and "When the Crystal Shatters", were re-recorded, re-edited, and remixed specifically for this EP. Each track also received an extended mix that presents it in a brand new light, and - in the case of the alternate mix of "The Haunting" - also shows that Mike has not forgotten his dark scene club roots. In addition, six previously unreleased works from the 2014-2017 era of Pulse State find their first airings on Haunted Crystal Highways, providing several points of view of the current darkwave-influenced synthpop sound that PS has been playing for the last several years. All songs come with new drum machine sounds, guitar lines, and vocal recordings. The attention to detail on this EP can even be seen on its cover artwork, lovingly crafted and perfected by Joshua McAllister (Function13, Schedule IV, LABEL).
Haunted Crystal Highways serves to strengthen Pulse State's position in the worlds of darkwave, synthpop, and dark alternative music in general. Released exclusively on Pulse State's Bandcamp page.

Faderhead is with and without an accent, "at the same time"; this is truly vocal talent. I am sure many can share in the irony of Australian and European artists singing with an American accent, while the opposite can be said of American artists. The fact that he uses an American East Coast one in 'Darker Please' -a sorta story-, - steering at the rain -, -dokker plz- is somehow classic to being EBM's style and yet proves monotone vocals can still carry edgy and catchy dynamics. aggrophene
